Doris Lindner (1896 - 1979), was a prominent Welsh sculpter who studied at St Martin’s School of Art, the British Academy in Rome and at Calderon’s Animal School in London. Her works were seen by Joseph Grimson, Managing Director of Royal Worcester, when exhibited at Heals London store in the 1920s. Invited to produce some trial pieces, she became one of Royal Worcester's leading designers.
Renowned for her animal sculptures, initially starting with smaller domestic animals, before designing zoo babies, her hunting series, released in 1935 won her great acclaim. Her attention to detail took her to study form and breeding programmes in both the UK and America, collaborating with breeders as she planned her designs. She visited Texas to study champion cattle, all her animals drawn from observation in real life.
Her piece, In the Ring, is currently exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
